Vibrant Health Advocates - Onyx runs on the commitment of people who believe that Wishaw's harbour-working community deserves better occupational health support. Whether you have professional skills to offer, time to give as a volunteer, or the means to make a financial contribution, there is a meaningful role for you in what we do. We are a small organisation, which means your involvement has direct, visible impact โ not a drop in a large bucket, but a genuine addition to the work that helps real people in our community stay safe and well.
We train and support volunteers to staff our drop-in sessions, help with resource distribution, and assist with administration and outreach. A background in health, social care, or the fishing and port industries is useful but not essential โ what matters most is commitment to this community and the ability to engage warmly with people who may be wary of formal services.
Volunteer with usEvery donation we receive goes directly into developing better resources, running more sessions, and reaching more workers across North Lanarkshire and Scotland's harbour communities. We are a lean organisation with low overheads, and your support has a clear and traceable impact on the people we serve.
Make a donationWe actively seek partnerships with fishing associations, port operators, trade unions, health boards, and local businesses who want to support the occupational health and wellbeing of harbour workers. If you work with or alongside this community, we would welcome a conversation about how we might work together.
Start a conversation
We have always been a lean organisation by choice, not constraint. Staying small means we stay sharp โ every volunteer is known by name, every partnership is maintained with genuine attention, and every pound donated is tracked to a specific piece of work that would not otherwise happen.
When you volunteer with us, you will join a team of people who are genuinely connected to the community they serve โ some with decades of connection to Wishaw's fishing and harbour communities, others who have come to us through health and social care backgrounds and wanted to put that expertise somewhere it makes a direct difference.
We provide full training for all volunteer roles, including our drop-in session facilitation training, which covers listening and signposting skills as well as the specific occupational health content you will be sharing. No prior expertise in occupational health is required to start that journey with us.
